While benzodiazepines are proven to be effective, the study has shown that anti-depressants like SSRI if used with therapy show more efficiency to relieve anxiety. Two separate reports published by Washington University School of Medicine and New England Journal of Medicine have shown that anti-depressants have lasting effects in older people and kids. For kids, psychiatrists were long been using therapies to relieve anxiety, but the recent report published by New England Journal of Medicine has shown that if combined with anti-depressants like Zoloft, the therapies work better and faster. Dr. Eric J. Lenze of Washington University School of Medicine studied the effect of sedatives like diazepam and anti-depressants on the elderly people and concluded that anti-depressants worked better than the sedatives for older people.
